‘Blindsided’: A President’s Story
By: Maureen Dowd

Maureen Dowd chose to write this article to reflect on George W. Bush's presidency. She wants to address Bush's way of responding to important problems that he faced during his time in office. Dowd makes her opinion obvious. She thinks Bush often froze up during crucial moments that would end up defineing his presidency.

When he made decisions, Dowd feels that Bush failed to measure the consequences. She cites examples like the war in Irag to give legitimacey to her argument. A tool used effectively by Dowd is abbreviation. She abbreviates George W. Bush as "W.". This gives a definitive character to Bush. In my mind, it adds a negative connotation.
